Alexis Sanchez has revealed that he messaged Arsene Wenger on Friday after discovering the Arsenal manager was leaving at the end of the season to thank him for everything he did for him.
Sanchez quit Arsenal in January to join Manchester United after refusing to sign a new contract with the north London club.
But the Chile striker - who scored in United’s 2-1 FA Cup semi-final win over Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday - insisted he would be eternally grateful for the role Wenger played in his career after the Frenchman paid £35 million to secure his services from Barcelona in 2014.
“I messaged him,” Sanchez said, after United’s victory against Spurs. “I thanked him for what he did for me and it’s sad because he is a legend in the history of football, he is a gentleman and a great coach. He taught me about respect. I can only say kind words about him. He taught me a lot. He is a gentleman.”
