Allegiant flight from South Bend to Florida makes emergency landing in Fort Wayne

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (AP) -- An Allegiant Air flight from South Bend to Punta Gorda, Fla., made an emergency landing in Fort Wayne after a cargo fire indicator light came on.

Allegiant Air spokeswoman Jessica Wheeler said the flight landed in Fort Wayne shortly before 1:30 p.m. with 149 passengers and five crew members on board. She says all were safely evacuated from the MD-80 jet and no injuries were immediately reported. She says it was not immediately known what caused the light to come on.

Wheeler says a replacement plane is headed to Fort Wayne from Bellingham, Wash., for passengers who still want to travel to Punta Gorda. She says the plane is expected to depart Fort Wayne about 10 p.m.
