Alphabet on fire, Whirlpool washed out, Verizon beats on earnings

Alphabet (GOOGL): Shares are climbing here, up around 4%. The parent company of Google had a huge beat on the top line and beat on revenue as well. The online search giant reported paid clicks were 58% in the quarter, topping the 49% expected.

Whirlpool (WHR): Shares of the appliance maker are getting shellacked, down over 10%. Whirlpool missed on earnings and revenue, and its full-year 2018 EPS outlook also came in light. Whirlpool reported it’s paying more for raw materials due to Trump’s steel and aluminum tariffs.

Verizon (VZ): Shares trying to fight higher here, flat in midday trading. The telecom giant and corporate parent of Yahoo Finance Verizon beat on both earnings and revenue in the last quarter, as wireless subscriber numbers grew.
