What’s new on Amazon Prime Video (December 2018)

Rick Marshall

Each month, Amazon adds a healthy dose of fresh content, providing viewers with a significant number of new and interesting things to watch. With so much new stuff, it can be hard to know what to watch without doing extensive research. Never fear, streaming enthusiasts and Amazon Fire TV owners: If you’re looking for the best of what’s new on Amazon Prime Video this November and December, we’re here to help.

December brings the second season of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, the award-winning series that follows a 1958 housewife who discovers she has a talent for stand-up comedy and tries to find the balance between her career aspirations and her family. Season 2 has Miriam “Midge” Maisel taking the next step on the path to becoming a professional comic and discovering that the life of a stand-up comedian can affect everyone around her in unforeseen ways. The series is fresh off a wildly successful first season, particularly for star Rachel Brosnahan, who won both an Emmy and Golden Globe Award for her portrayal of Midge.

Also premiering on Amazon in December is Life Itself, a drama written and directed by This Is Us creator Dan Fogelman. The film follows several couples around the world whose lives and loves are intertwined without them realizing it, connected by a single, tragic event that reverberates across generations. The ensemble cast includes Oscar Isaac, Olivia Wilde, Antonio Banderas, Mandy Patinkin, Olivia Cooke, and Annette Bening.

There are also plenty of new and noteworthy movies and television series not produced in-house that will be available to Amazon Prime subscribers this upcoming month. Among the highlights are classics like A Clockwork Orange and A Fistful of Dollars, as well as more modern classics like Bill Murray’s time-looping comedy Groundhog Day and acclaimed adult-film drama Boogie Nights. British miniseries Life of Crime also arrives on Prime Video.
