OSHKOSH, WI--(Marketwired - Jul 31, 2013) - Pilot Amelia Rose Earhart will announce today her intention to circumnavigate the globe in a Pilatus PC-12 NG single-engine aircraft. Departure from Oakland, California is scheduled for June 2014.

"My passion for flight and adventure has driven me to explore new experiences I never would have imagined possible as a child," said Amelia. "Hard work, persistence and great role models have enabled me to fly outside the lines and achieve my dreams. Aviation plays an integral role in my life and I hope to share some of that joy with others through this adventure."

In partnership with Denver's Wings Over the Rockies Air and Space Museum, Amelia and co-pilot, Patrick Carter, will fly more than 100 hours and make 14 stops on their journey. This flight plan follows a 2012 transcontinental flight, also tracing one of Amelia Earhart's noteworthy voyages from Oakland, California, to Miami.

"Amelia and Patrick's love of flight, yearning for adventure and dedication to safety and education make them great ambassadors for the Pilatus brand," said Thomas Bosshard, President and CEO for Pilatus Business Aircraft, Ltd. "The Pilatus PC-12 NG's unique combination of reliability, speed, range and performance make it the perfect aircraft to complete this demanding flight. We look forward to helping The Amelia Project raise awareness for more young women to pursue a fulfilling career in aviation."

Earhart, a traffic and weather anchor and philanthropist in Denver has dreamt of this flight since she was 18 years old. She started her flight training in 2004 and continues to build upon her growing list of certificates and ratings. Amelia is the founder and president of the Fly With Amelia Foundation, which provides flight scholarships to young women; flight-based educational curriculum; and a variety of opportunities for people to get involved in aviation. Amelia is a member of The Ninety-Nines, an international organization of women pilots, and works with more than 75 charities each year. She is dedicated to advancing opportunities through flight to people of all ages and backgrounds.

In July of this year, Amelia was awarded the Amelia Earhart Pioneering Achievement Award, an honor and $10,000 grant that will allow her to provide young women with flight training, at the 17th annual Amelia Earhart festival in Atchison, Kansas. The award is given to a woman who carry on the first Amelia's spirit and shows women that the sky is not the limit when it comes to their goals.

The Amelia Project has several prestigious sponsors including Jeppesen, which will provide navigational and weather information, and flight planning and operations management for the global journey.

"Captain Jeppesen and Amelia Earhart were contemporaries and each made a lasting and profound impact on aviation history," said Mark Van Tine, Jeppesen chief executive officer. "It is only fitting that Jeppesen is partnering with the Amelia Project to close Amelia Earhart's flight plan, helping to raise awareness of aviation opportunities."
