American Public Education: 3Q Earnings Snapshot

CHARLES TOWN, W.Va. (AP) _ American Public Education Inc. (APEI) on Tuesday reported third-quarter profit of $5.5 million.

The Charles Town, West Virginia-based company said it had profit of 33 cents per share.

The results topped Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of three analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of 30 cents per share.

The for-profit education company posted revenue of $73 million in the period.

American Public Education shares have increased 38 percent since the beginning of the year. In the final minutes of trading on Tuesday, shares hit $34.48, a climb of 70 percent in the last 12 months.
