Facebook (FB) has long been a hidden pleasure of many people in the workforce, but now, Facebook has designs to make it part of daily office life.
The company is building a new website called Facebook At Work. One analyst isn't convinced the new site will be a big hit. "We don't think Facebook At Work will be a success, based on the limited information we have on it. Facebook has a number of priorities which would be ahead of At Work, including the core Facebook site, Instagram, video, WhatsApp, ad network, Atlas and Oculus Rift," said Gene Munster, senior research analyst at Piper Jaffray. Facebook At Work will rival existing professional networks such as, Microsoft (MSFT) Outlook, Google's (GOOGL) Gmail as well as LinkedIn (LNKD).
On the new website, users will create a work profile, which will be kept separate from personal profiles, according to The Financial Times. Users can chat with colleagues, connect with professional contacts and collaborate over documents, the newspaper reported. Facebook declined to give CNBC a comment.
