ANGLE (LON:AGL) Shareholders Booked A 40% Gain In The Last Three Years

By buying an index fund, you can roughly match the market return with ease. But if you pick the right individual stocks, you could make more than that. For example, ANGLE plc (LON:AGL) shareholders have seen the share price rise 40% over three years, well in excess of the market decline (19%, not including dividends).

View our latest analysis for ANGLE

Because ANGLE made a loss in the last twelve months, we think the market is probably more focussed on revenue and revenue growth, at least for now. Shareholders of unprofitable companies usually expect strong revenue growth. As you can imagine, fast revenue growth, when maintained, often leads to fast profit growth.

ANGLE's revenue trended up 16% each year over three years. That's pretty nice growth. The share price gain of 12% per year shows that the market is paying attention to this growth. Of course, valuation is quite sensitive to the rate of growth. Keep in mind that the strength of the balance sheet impacts the options open to the company.

The company's revenue and earnings (over time) are depicted in the image below (click to see the exact numbers).

A Different Perspective

While it's certainly disappointing to see that ANGLE shares lost 5.0% throughout the year, that wasn't as bad as the market loss of 11%. What is more upsetting is the 8.1% per annum loss investors have suffered over the last half decade. This sort of share price action isn't particularly encouraging, but at least the losses are slowing. I find it very interesting to look at share price over the long term as a proxy for business performance. But to truly gain insight, we need to consider other information, too. Consider for instance, the ever-present spectre of investment risk. We've identified 4 warning signs with ANGLE (at least 1 which is concerning) , and understanding them should be part of your investment process.

Of course, you might find a fantastic investment by looking elsewhere. So take a peek at this free list of companies we expect will grow earnings.
