Another glitch in option exchanges

Option exchanges were halted across the board for about 30 minutes today, citing problems with the feed from the Options Price Reporting Authority.

OPRA provides price information and quotations, and problems there can see big swings in option prices and therefore in trading. Trading was halted between 1:30 p.m. and 1:40 p.m. ET. All systems appeared to be back up and running by 2:10 p.m. ET.

It is the latest of a string of technical problems that have beset the exchanges in recent weeks. Such issues highlight the advantage of trading options, which limit potential losses by contract rather than depending on the vagaries of market swings.
