Earnings, Revenue Down Less Than Feared

Apollo Group's second-quarter profit fell to $0.34 a share, but that was still much better than the $0.18 expected by analysts. Revenue of $834.4 million also beat the $822.8 million consensus estimate. APOL climbs 12 percent before the bell on my tradeMONSTER platform.

More Suitors Approach Dell

Dell announced it has received takeover bid from Blackstone Group and Carl Icahn, which may trump founder Michael Dell's $24.4 billion offer. DELL climbs more than 3 percent in early trading.

BlackBerry Falls on Goldman Downgrade

BlackBerry was downgraded to "neutral" by Goldman Sachs, which said the stock is expensive after its big run and cited a disappointing launch of its Z-10 handset. BBRY drops 5 percent in the premarket.
