'Need for Speed: Payback' trailer exhibits 'Fast and Furious' levels of corniness

In the "Need for Speed: Payback" reveal trailer, it was clear that the game was going to have some pretty impressive heists and driving tasks that wouldn't look out of place in the "Fast and Furious" series. In this new trailer, it seems that the plot will hew close to the movie series, too. It's got a crew (that hasn't yet been referred to as a "family" by a gravelly-voiced bald man), high stakes, a criminal underworld, and some pretty corny lines.

The most memorable from this trailer involving race fixer Lina Navarro and one of the protagonists, Tyler "Ty" Ramirez. Lina, after explaining that everything is against Ty, tells him, "You're about to run out of luck." Ty quips back in his serious voice, "This has never been about luck." This of course is amplified by the setting of the fictional Las Vegas-like Silver Rock full of casinos and a criminal organization called the House.

Aside from the cheesy dialogue, the game will feature explosions and stunts galore. And for those curious about the plot, the trailer seems to indicate that the House crossed some line for Ty and his friends, Sean "Mac" McAlister and Jessica "Jess" Miller, and now it's time to take revenge and bring down the house. The crossed line also appears to be somewhere between having a Koenigsegg Regera stolen from them, and Ty nearly killed in an explosion. And the way to do this seems to involve becoming the best street racers in town to then enter a massive city race called "The Rush." It's all a bit over-the-top, but that isn't necessarily a bad thing. Sometimes its fun to just kick back and enjoy a wild fantasy world of explosions, fast cars, and high stakes, and it looks like this "Need for Speed" will have all of that.
