Paramount Plus Releases ‘Star Trek: Picard’ Teaser (TV News Roundup)

Paramount Plus unveiled a new teaser for Season 2 of “Star Trek: Picard.”

The teaser was released on June 16 in honor of Captain Picard Day, a celebration of a fictional annual event held aboard the U.S.S. Enterprise-D, as seen in “Star Trek: The Next Generation.”

“Stark Trek: Picard” features Patrick Stewart reprising his iconic role as Jean-Luc Picard, who is entering the next chapter of his life. The series also stars Alison Pill, Isa Briones, Evan Evagora, Michelle Hurd, Santiago Cabrera, Jeri Ryan, Orla Brady, John de Lancie and Brent Spiner.

Produced by CBS Studios in association with Secret Hideout and Roddenberry Entertainment, “Star Trek: Picard” is executive produced by Alex Kurtzman, Akiva Goldsman, Terry Matalas, Stewart, Heather Kadin, Rod Roddenberry, Trevor Roth, Doug Aarniokoski and Dylan Massin. Aaron Baiers and Kirsten Beyer serve as co-executive producers, while Goldsman and Matalas serve as co-showrunners for Season 2.

Apple TV Plus announced that the second season of “Truth Be Told” will premiere on Aug. 20, with new episodes releasing weekly every Friday. The second season will see an investigative reporter turned true-crime podcaster Poppy Parnell (Octavia Spencer) dive into a new case that deeply involves her childhood friend, media mogul Micah Keith (Kate Hudson). In addition to Hudson, Christopher Backus, Alona Tal, David Lyons, Andre Royo, Merle Dandridge and Mychala Faith Lee will join the cast as new series regulars. Returning cast members include Mekhi Phifer, Michael Beach, Ron Cephas Jones, Tracie Thoms, Haneefah Wood, Tami Roman and Katherine LaNasa. “Truth Be Told” is created by Nichelle Tramble Spellman. In addition to Spellman, Spencer, Reese Witherspoon, Lauren Neustadter, Peter Chernin, Jenno Topping and Mikkel Nørgaard serve as executive producers.

FIRST LOOKS

Adult Swim and Crunchyroll released the trailer for “Fena: Pirate Princess,” which will be released later this summer. The half-hour animated series will follow the adventures of Fena Houtman (Asami Seto) as she is on the run from pirates and the English Navy and must rely on a crew of Japanese samurai to unlock her family secrets along with an unimaginable treasure. The voice cast will also include Ryota Suzuki, Takahiro Sakurai, Aoi Yuki, Gen Sato, Ryota Osaka, Jun Osuka, Shintaro Tanaka, Manabu Muraji and Hiroaki Hirata. “Fena: Pirate Princess” is directed by Kazuto Nakazawa and Production I.G. serves as the animation studio.

GREENLIGHTS

HGTV greenlit “The Nate & Jeremiah Home Project,” a new docuseries starring the married designer duo Nake Berkus and Jeremiah Brent. The six-episode order, tentatively slated for a fall 2021 release, will follow Berkus and Brent as they help families move into new homes and move on from unnecessary belongings. The series is produced by Scott Brothers Entertainment.

EXECUTIVE NEWS

CBS News promoted Rick Jefferson to senior vice president of news operations, presidents and co-heads Neeraj Khemlani and Wendy McMahon announced. In his new role, Jefferson is responsible for the network’s technical operations and production facilities, overseeing teams and crews in every CBS News bureau and location worldwide. Previously, Jefferson served as vice president of news operations.

CASTING

Hulu announced that Chris Lowell has joined the cast of “How I Met Your Father.” Lowell will play the role of Jesse, a smart aspiring musician and Uber driver who is cynical about love. “How I Met Your Father,” which follows Sophie (Hilary Duff) telling her son the story of how she met his dad, is written by Isaac Aptaker and Elizabeth Berger, who executive produce alongside Carter Bays and Craig Thomas. Adam Londy serves as co-executive producer, and Duff produces. “How I Met Your Father” is a production of 20th Television.

Rafe Spall has joined the cast of HBO Films’ “The Days of Abandonment.” Adapted from Elena Ferrante’s novel of the same name, the film follows a woman in crisis, abandoned by her husband after abandoning her own dreams for a stable home life. Joining Natalie Portman and Mary-Louise Parker, Spall will play Oliver, the protagonist’s husband. Maggie Betts writes, directs and executive produces alongside Portman, Sophie Mas, Celine Rattray, Trudie Styler, Len Amato, Ferrante, Domenico Procacci and Maria Zuckerman.

LATE NIGHT

Seth Meyers, Annie Murphy and Coldplay will appear on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon,” while Zooey Deschanel, Sam Richardson and Kodak Black will be on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” “Conan” will feature JB Smoove, while “The Late Show With Stephen Colbert” will have on Anderson Cooper and Sleater-Kinney. “Late Night With Seth Meyers” will feature Terry Crews, Ann-Margret and Stevie Nistor, and Margot Robbie, Rose Byrne and Polo G will appear on “The Late Late Show With James Corden.
