AppScale Collaborates With Google Cloud Platform to Provide Flexibility and Drive Customer Success

Investment of Engineering Resources to Drive Interoperability

SANTA BARBARA, CA--(Marketwired - May 5, 2015) - AppScale Systems, Inc., makers of AppScale, the popular open source implementation of Google's application platform, Google App Engine, announced today that Google is making a direct investment, in the form of engineering resources, to accelerate and promote the compatibility and interoperability between AppScale and Google App Engine. This collaboration will allow their mutual customers to leverage the planetary scale of Google Cloud Platform and the flexibility of open source AppScale.

Google App Engine is a Platform as a Service (PaaS) offering for building and running applications on Google's infrastructure. App Engine applications are easy to build, easy to maintain, and easy to scale as app traffic and data storage needs change.

AppScale is an open source implementation of Google's game-changing platform, App Engine. With AppScale, developers can very rapidly develop web and mobile applications using the de facto standard, enterprise-tested and validated App Engine APIs, and run the apps on any cloud -- public or private. AppScale can run App Engine apps wherever they desire and without modification.

Miles Ward, Global Head, Solutions for Google Cloud Platform, said in a blog published today, "Imagine you have a subset of customers who would be better served by your infrastructure because they have custom integration requirements. You can continue to serve your worldwide customers with the power of App Engine, and route requests from specific customers down to an installation of AppScale just for them. Imagine you have an existing data center or colocation capacity, but want to get started building apps designed with the cloud in mind. Simply install AppScale today and start building apps that are cloud-ready."

"We are thrilled to announce this unique collaboration with Google Cloud Platform," said Woody Rollins, Founder and CEO at AppScale Systems. "The investment of engineering resources in open source AppScale is an incredible validation of our work. This news is the culmination of two years of working together to give our mutual customers the control they require over their applications, ensuring agility, efficiency and most importantly, technical success."

The Google Cloud Platform blog will share updates on the progress, and users can also visit the appscale.com to learn more about our collaboration efforts.
