BRYN MAWR, Pa. (AP) _ Aqua America Inc. (WTR) on Thursday reported first-quarter earnings of $16.9 million.
The Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania-based company said it had profit of 9 cents per share. Earnings, adjusted for one-time gains and costs, were 28 cents per share.
The results missed Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of five analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of 30 cents per share.
The water utility posted revenue of $201.1 million in the period, which also fell short of Street forecasts. Three analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $203.7 million.
Aqua America expects full-year earnings in the range of $1.45 to $1.50 per share.
Aqua America shares have risen 12% since the beginning of the year. In the final minutes of trading on Thursday, shares hit $38.33, an increase of nearly 9% in the last 12 months.
