BRYN MAWR, Pa. (AP) _ Aqua America Inc. (WTR) on Monday reported a fourth-quarter loss of $3.7 million, after reporting a profit in the same period a year earlier.
On a per-share basis, the Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania-based company said it had a loss of 2 cents. Earnings, adjusted for non-recurring costs, came to 31 cents per share.
The results fell short of Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of five analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of 32 cents per share.
The water utility posted revenue of $205.7 million in the period.
For the year, the company reported profit of $192 million, or $1.08 per share. Revenue was reported as $838.1 million.
Aqua America shares have risen 4 percent since the beginning of the year. The stock has increased 2 percent in the last 12 months.
