LEAWOOD, Kan. (AP) _ Aratana Therapeutics Inc. (PETX) on Monday reported a loss of $23.3 million in its fourth quarter.
The Leawood, Kansas-based company said it had a loss of 64 cents per share. Losses, adjusted for non-recurring costs, came to 35 cents per share.
The results topped Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of three analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for a loss of 43 cents per share.
The developer of pet medications posted revenue of $292,000 in the period, which fell short of Street forecasts. Three analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $923,000.
For the year, the company reported that its loss narrowed to $33.6 million, or 95 cents per share. Revenue was reported as $38.6 million.
Aratana shares have fallen 3 percent since the beginning of the year. In the final minutes of trading on Monday, shares hit $6.95, a rise of 62 percent in the last 12 months.
