Assurant raises buyback program by $600 million

Assurant announced a $600 million expansion of its share repurchase program Monday.

As of Oct. 31, the New York insurance provider still had about $152 million remaining from a previous buyback program. The company has repurchased about $351 million worth of common stock so far this year, the company said.

Shares of Assurant Inc. rose 88 cents, or 1.4 percent, to $62.23 in afternoon trading Monday.
