TORONTO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--

Event to Raise Awareness, New Funds for Local Homeless Youth Population

AST Trust Company (Canada) is proud to announce that its President and CEO, Margot Jordan, will be among the expected 100 Toronto business and community leaders sleeping out on November 21, 2019 to help raise awareness and much-needed funds for nonprofit organization Covenant House Toronto. This is the second year in a row that Jordan will be participating in the annual Sleep Out event, where participants spend the night on the street with only a sleeping bag and piece of cardboard to warm them.

This year’s goal is to raise $1.2 million in one evening. In 2018, participants spent a cold night to raise a total of $1.1 million, bringing the total raised for all Sleep Out events to more than $7 million.

“Last year’s experience with Sleep Out really opened my eyes to the difficulty that people of all ages – but especially our youth – face when sleeping or living outside,” Jordan said. “We should all aspire to end homelessness in Canada, which starts with individuals and companies gaining a new perspective, developing real empathy and ultimately helping to provide genuine support to those around us. At AST (Canada), we are proud to help highlight Covenant House’s mission and provide visibility to this critical issue through such an important event.”

Mark Aston, Covenant House Toronto’s new executive director, says that about 350 young people depend on the agency’s support every day.

“We are most grateful to the executives who have been championing Sleep Out from the beginning and have made this intimate and immersive overnight experience a standing tradition for those who participate year after year,” Aston says. “Our goal is to help shine a light on youth homelessness and raise much-needed funds.”

Covenant House helps youth ignite their potential and reclaim their lives. As Canada’s largest agency serving youth who are homeless, trafficked or at risk, Covenant House offers the widest range of 24/7 services to young people each day. The organization has supported more than 95,000 young people since 1982.
