Atlantic Power names Hall as its COO

Atlantic Power taps Hall to serve as executive vice president and COO

BOSTON (AP) -- Atlantic Power has named power company veteran Edward Hall as executive vice president and chief operating officer.

The energy company said Wednesday that the appointments are effective on April 2.

As COO, Hall will be responsible for Atlantic Power Corp.'s operations, asset management, environmental health and safety and engineering functions. He will also play a role in the development and execution of the Boston company's operational and strategic initiatives.

Hall previously served as executive vice president and COO Global Generation at power company AES Corp.

Earlier this month Atlantic Power announced a "poison pill" plan, though it said the measure was not in response to any takeover attempt or the anticipation of receiving one.

The company owns power generations assets in the United States and Canada.

Its shares rose 13 cents, or 2.7 percent, to $4.88 in morning trading. They are up from a 52-week low of $4.56 on Tuesday. They are almost 70 percent below their high of $15.18 set last November.
