DETROIT (AP) -- Ford Motor Co. said Wednesday that its U.S. sales rose 12 percent in August, led by full-size pickups as well as demand for small cars.
BY THE NUMBERS: The Dearborn, Mich.-based automaker said it sold 221,270 cars and trucks in August, up from 197,249 in the same month a year ago.
TOP SELLERS: F-Series pickup sales were up 22 percent to 71,115. It was the second month this year — after May — that F-Series sales have topped 70,000. Ford's second best-selling vehicle, the Escape SUV, fell 5 percent to 26,714 as the company struggled to keep up with demand.
HOT MODELS: Sales of the newly redesigned Fiesta subcompact jumped 61.5 percent to 6,744. Sales of the Taurus full-size sedan rose 26 percent to 6,836.
