SAN RAFAEL, Calif. (AP) _ Autodesk Inc. (ADSK) on Thursday reported a loss of $170.5 million in its fiscal fourth quarter.
On a per-share basis, the San Rafael, California-based company said it had a loss of 77 cents. Losses, adjusted for stock option expense and pretax expenses, came to 28 cents per share.
The results topped Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of 10 analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for a loss of 33 cents per share.
The design software company posted revenue of $478.8 million in the period, which also beat Street forecasts. Six analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $474.1 million.
For the year, the company reported that its loss widened to $579.2 million, or $2.60 per share. Revenue was reported as $2.03 billion.
For the current quarter ending in May, Autodesk expects its results to range from a loss of 27 cents per share to a loss of 21 cents per share.
The company said it expects revenue in the range of $460 million to $480 million for the fiscal first quarter. Analysts surveyed by Zacks had expected revenue of $503.4 million.
Autodesk expects full-year results to range from a loss of 73 cents per share to a loss of 56 cents per share, with revenue ranging from $2 billion to $2.05 billion.
Autodesk shares have risen 18 percent since the beginning of the year, while the Standard & Poor's 500 index has increased slightly more than 6 percent. In the final minutes of trading on Thursday, shares hit $87.32, a rise of 60 percent in the last 12 months.
