On a per-share basis, the Memphis, Tennessee-based company said it had profit of $15.99.
The results topped Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of 10 analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of $15.23 per share.
The auto parts retailer posted revenue of $2.78 billion in the period.
AutoZone shares have increased 17% since the beginning of the year, while the Standard & Poor's 500 index has climbed 13%. The stock has increased 50% in the last 12 months.
