'Avengers: Endgame' script reveals Iron Man’s heart-breaking final thought

Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely’s script for Avengers: Endgame has been released, and it reveals the final ever thoughts of Iron Man before his deeply depressing passing. 

Brandon Davis of ComicBook.com recently read through the screenplay for the blockbuster, which earlier this year became the highest grossing film of all time.

On page 135 he discovered that after Gwyneth Paltrow’s Pepper Potts, Stark’s wife and the mother of his child, stares into the eyes of her mortally wounded husband she instantly realises that he’s about to die. Then the script says that, with “tears welling,” Stark silently says back to Potts, “I’m sorry.”

Earlier this summer, Joe Russo told the Empire Podcast that it was actually Robert Downey Jr’s plan to have Iron Man be completely silent for his final moments.

“Robert was like, ‘I'm not going to say f***ing anything. I don't want to talk, because it doesn't feel honest to me’. And I don't think in that moment that he'd have the ability to speak.’ He was like, ‘I'm going to lay here, and you can let it unfold with the other characters, but I'm going to barely interact because that feels like a truthful choice to me’.”

We’ll get to see the impact of Iron Man’s death on the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s superheroes over the next few years.
