PEMBROKE, Bermuda (AP) _ Axis Capital Holdings Ltd. (AXS) on Wednesday reported a loss of $187.8 million in its fourth quarter.
On a per-share basis, the Pembroke, Bermuda-based company said it had a loss of $2.37. Losses, adjusted for non-recurring costs, were $1.77 per share.
The results missed Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of four analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for a loss of $1.34 per share.
The insurance company posted revenue of $1.25 billion in the period. Its adjusted revenue was $1.32 billion.
For the year, the company reported net income of $43 million, swinging to a profit in the period. Revenue was reported as $5.09 billion.
Axis Capital shares have climbed slightly more than 7 percent since the beginning of the year. In the final minutes of trading on Wednesday, shares hit $55.44, an increase of roughly 10 percent in the last 12 months.
