Bacardi names Shirley as new president, CEO

NEW YORK (AP) -- Spirits company Bacardi Ltd. is naming consumer products veteran Edward D. Shirley as its new president and CEO, effective immediately.

The privately held company, based in Bermuda, said Friday that Shirley succeeds Seamus McBride, whose retirement was planned.

Shirley is the former vice chairman of beauty and grooming at Procter & Gamble Co. He has also held positions with Oral-B, Gillette and Braun, which are brands of the Cincinnati-based consumer products giant.

Shirley will also serve as a Bacardi board member.

Bacardi has more than 200 brands and labels, including Bacardi rum, Grey Goose vodka and Dewar's blended Scotch whisky.
