CLANTON — Amanda Baxley was sworn in Thursday as circuit judge representing Chilton County for the 19th Judicial Circuit.

She takes over from long-serving 19th Circuit Judge Sibley Reynolds, who did not seek re-election. Reynolds, with 30 years in, was the longest serving circuit judge in the state. Baxley was unopposed for the judgeship. She takes the bench on Jan. 17.

The circuit serves Autauga, Chilton and Elmore counties. Each county has a judge, elected from residents of that county, but the judges ride the circuit, hearing cases in all three counties.

Baxley, who turned 43 on the day she was sworn in, is a Republican. She and her husband, Jason, have three children ranging in age from 5 to 9.

Baxley started her legal career as a prosecutor, serving as an assistant district attorney for now retired 19th Judicial Circuit District Attorney Randall Houston. She left the DA's office to enter private practice. She has also served as prosecutor for the city of Clanton and municipal court judge for the cities of Thorsby and Maplesville.
