Bears rookie LB Roquan Smith has iPad with Bears playbook stolen from his car

Chicago Bears rookie linebacker Roquan Smith, the team’s first-round pick, is trying to make a good impression in his first weeks on the job. Then he had to tell the team he had his playbook stolen.

Smith had his 2018 BMW X5 (nice ride, rookie) broken into when he was in Athens, Georgia, according to Patrick Finley of the Chicago Sun-Times. The most notable thing taken from the car, at least as far as the Bears are concerned, was Smith’s team-issued iPad with his Bears playbook on it.

Don’t fret, a Green Bay Packers spy isn’t breaking down the Bears’ defensive schemes after the robbery. Once the Bears were made aware of the theft, they immediately wiped the iPad clean of any playbook information. Have to love technology.

That part of the story turned out OK, but Smith had other valuable items taken. According to the Sun-Times, among the stolen items were four pairs of Bose headphones, Bluetooth speakers, expensive watches, shoes, Smith’s helmet from the University of Georgia and three Georgia jerseys Smith wore. The stolen jerseys were the ones he wore in the regular season, the Rose Bowl and the national title game, the Sun-Times said.

Finley wrote that Smith had been parked at an apartment complex since Friday evening, and reported the robbery to police late Saturday night. Hopefully Smith can at least get the helmet and jerseys back, since those are irreplaceable.

A public information officer from the Athens-Clarke County Police Department told Finley that fingerprints were taken from the car and the department is investigating the theft.
