CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) _ Benefitfocus Inc. (BNFT) on Thursday reported a loss of $11.6 million in its third quarter.
The Charleston, South Carolina-based company said it had a loss of 36 cents per share. Losses, adjusted for stock option expense and non-recurring costs, were 23 cents per share.
The results surpassed Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of seven analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for a loss of 27 cents per share.
The human resources software provider posted revenue of $61 million in the period, which also topped Street forecasts. Six analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $60.2 million.
For the current quarter ending in December, Benefitfocus expects its per-share earnings to range from 6 cents to 15 cents.
The company said it expects revenue in the range of $71 million to $74 million for the fiscal fourth quarter.
Benefitfocus expects full-year results to range from a loss of 66 cents per share to a loss of 57 cents per share, with revenue ranging from $255 million to $258 million.
Benefitfocus shares have increased 33 percent since the beginning of the year. In the final minutes of trading on Thursday, shares hit $36, an increase of 37 percent in the last 12 months.
