Berkshire to merge telecoms

The private equity firm said it would acquire and merge Lightower Fiber Networks and Sidera Networks as consolidation continues among fiber-optic telecom firms. Berkshire Partners valued the two deals at $2 bil. The combined company, which will be led by Lightower CEO Rob Shanahan, competes with Zayo's AboveNet, Level 3 Communications (LVLT) and TW Telecom (TWTC) in providing ultrafast fiber networks to enterprise customers.
