Best of the Best 2016: Leisure | Cigars: Espada by Montecristo Estoque
Elegant as this torpedo’s black-and-silver bands are, they unfortunately conceal most of the flawless, silken Nicaraguan Cuban-seed wrapper from Nestor Plasencia’s 2013 harvest. But once you remove the bands and light this Nicaraguan puro, it makes good on the promise of its wrapper. The Estoque delivers a pungent mustard-seed-and-floral flavor that begs for a snifter of Royal Brackla 21 Year Old.
In addition to the Jalapa-grown wrapper, the cigar consists of a Jalapa binder and a filler of vintage tobaccos from Nicaragua’s Ometepe island and Condega and Estelí regions.
The Estoque is named for the type of sword used by matadors.
The cigar is available in only one size, a 6 × 50 torpedo.
