From an academic perspective, Tsinghua has a significant scholarly impact; its professors are the first author – indicating they contributed the most work – of 72 articles published from 2018 to 2021, with 186 blockchain research papers. The Research Center for Digital Financial Assets – one of four blockchain-related research centers at Tsinghua – aims to cultivate the innovation of digital financial assets in enterprises and build the regulatory framework for digital financial assets.

Located in Beijing, Tsinghua has two master's degree programs with a fintech concentration and an undergraduate degree program with a fintech and entrepreneurship minor that is related to blockchain.

Students play an essential role in blockchain development at Tsinghua. THUBA DAO, a decentralized autonomous organization (DAO) initiated by the Tsinghua University Student Blockchain Association, organizes many campus events that give students a taste of what blockchain technology is like in the real world.

This August it held its first Twitter AMA event with Uniswap Labs, the company behind Ethereum-based decentralized exchange Uniswap. That same month, THUBA DAO held a global hackathon, sponsored by some Web3 household names, including the Polygon blockchain and protocol Algorand.

Tsinghua alumni have their hand in lots of leading blockchain projects. Conflux Network, which identifies itself as the only state-endorsed blockchain company in China, was founded in 2018 based on the Tree-Graph consensus algorithm developed in the research lab of Turing Award recipient Dr. Andrew Yao, a professor and the Dean of Institute for Interdisciplinary Information Sciences at Tsinghua University.
