The U.S. market showed a downward trend in the last month with all three major indices – the DOW, S&P 500 and NASDAQ moving lower. Several velocity ETFs such as iPath S&P 500 VIX Short-Term (VXX B+), ProShares VIX Short-Term Futures ETF (VIXY A) and VelocityShares VIX Short-Term ETN (VIIX B-) featured on the list of best performing ETFs as volatility rose amidst rising trade war tension. VIX, the CBOE velocity index increased to 16.7 this month from 12.7, earlier. Discover our Volatility hedged equity ETFs here Many long-term treasury ETFs like iShares 20 plus Year Treasury Bond ETF (TLT B-) and SPDR Portfolio Long Term Treasury ETF (SPTL n/a) also made it to the list of best performing ETFs as the yield on U.S. 10 year treasury note dropped to 1.634% from 2.079%, a month ago. Real estate ETFs such as Real Estate Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLRE ) and iShares U.S. Home Construction ETF (ITB A-) ranked amongst the best performing ETFs, as the real estate sector gained more than 6% this month. It was the best performing sector this month. The housing market is benefitting from falling interest rates.

Investors fear that Argentina might default on its debt and could hit a financial crisis. Several oil & gas equipment & services ETFs like SPDR S&P Oil & Gas Equipment & Services ETF (XES B+) and VanEck Vectors Oil Services ETF (OIH B+) featured on the list, as energy was the worst performing sector this week.
