In the following excerpt from the Internet Services Report, the CFO of Phoenix New Media Limited (FENG) discusses company strategy and the outlook for this vital industry:

TWST: You mentioned the different platforms, but you have an integrated platform for media. What does that mean exactly, and how does that work?

Ms. Ho: Throughout our history, we have been very proud of what we call the convergence model or the integrated platform. If you look at our current company, we started from the traditional TV media business. Then we expanded to the desktop website and focused on the portal operations as well as the video operations, and we also have the mobile Internet app. The first thing is in terms of media channels, we are probably one of the most comprehensive media platforms in China, and I think we are only one of the few that has both a very strong media brand and a very scalable user base in both the traditional TV and the new media sector.

Also in terms of the integrated model, that also talks about our content production mechanism. We have a centralized content production team. The company has total about 1,600 people, and about 600 are content production staff. On a daily basis, we produce a lot of original content, which covers not only the news as well as vertical contents like fashion and entertainment. We can feed that produced content to all of our three major platforms, PC website, video and mobile Internet for user consumption.

TWST: You also use external content. What is the mix between your own content and external content?
