Beyoncé and Blue Ivy Twinned in Golden Gowns Inspired by Royalty

Sophie Wirt

Beyoncé and daughter Blue Ivy are no strangers to a twinning moment — you might recall their matching Texas tuxedos or the green Gucci ensembles they rocked for mommy/daughter night at Beauty and the Beast. Now, they’re at it again, with the superstar duo stealing the show at the second annual Wearable Art Gala this weekend, where they both showed off show-stopping golden gowns.

The “Formation” singer posted her mermaid-style dress to the ‘gram, leaving us in awe over its sheer, jewel-emblazoned curve-hugging bodice and fanned-out metallic gold skirt.

The wearable art came from Falguni Shane Peacock, a design house worn by the likes of Lady Gaga, Demi Lovato, and former Destiny’s Child pal, Kelly Rowland. But don’t expect to see these ladies in matching garb anytime soon: Queen Bey’s lavish look was custom-made to pay homage to some *other* historical queens — specifically, Nubian Queen Amanishakheto and Egyptian Queen Cleopatra.

As the mommy of three revealed in a playful bathroom selfie, daughter Blue Ivy was also channeling her inner goddess, with the mini-me swathed in a matching gold metallic dress with an impressive billowing shape. She topped off her look with an Egyptian-style headpiece that commanded MAJOR queenly attention.

Needless to say, creating gowns worthy of royalty was no small feat — Beyoncé’s frock, for one, reportedly took 10 days(!) to make.

It appeared well worth it in the end, however, giving the musician ties to warrior women that came before her. As designers Falguni and Shane Peacock explained to WWD“The metallic cutouts are placed strategically to mimic the shape of armor, as worn by the Nubian armies. We wanted to create an art statement, taking inspiration from the Nubian warrior queen. We felt it was the perfect inspiration when designing for such a strong woman like Beyoncé.”
