Billionaire Howard Marks Drops $29.2 Million on Robyn Moore’s Historic Malibu Estate
Howard Marks — the billionaire investor widely considered one of the world’s foremost trophy property collectors — is still growing his portfolio, now more than nine lavish homes strong. Records indicate the 75-year-old Oaktree Capital cofounder and his longtime wife Nancy have plunked down $29.2 million for a sumptuous estate in prime Malibu, right on the sandy shore of the city’s coveted Broad Beach.
And like many of Marks’ residences, this place certainly has its fair share of starry pedigree. It was sold to him by Robyn Moore, the Australian former dental nurse best-known to the public as the former wife of Mel Gibson. Moore has purchased the home from Walt Disney’s grand-niece, Susan Disney Lord; the property was also reportedly once owned by Neil Simon. And even the bones themselves have a pedigree: the structure was designed by acclaimed Californian architect Gerard Colcord, the master behind some of SoCal’s most elegant traditionalist homes.
Moore first put the place up for sale in February, asking $32 million. While the sale price rang in at a discount, it’s still a huge win for her — the 60-year-old paid “just” $18.2 million for the place in 2014. Set on either a double-wide or triple-wide oceanfront lot, the estate is one of the most discreet and private on Broad Beach, lying fortress-style behind big gates and a long driveway, and it includes more than an acre of land and a stunning 100 feet of coastline frontage.
Ellen Francisco of Coldwell Banker held the listing; Linda May of Hilton & Hyland repped Marks.
