One of the original stars of NBC's The Blacklist is saying farewell to the show. Tom Keen, played by Ryan Eggold, was killed off on Wednesday night's episode of the series-and his death is for real this time.

During the episode, Ian Garvey held Tom captive in the apartment he shared with his wife, Liz. When Liz showed up at the apartment, the two of them were beaten and Tom was stabbed. Red and Dembe arrived to help them and get them to a hospital. Then, there was a flash-forward, which fans saw a preview of in the season's first episode. Liz woke up after 10 months in a coma, and Red told her Tom has died. Viewers then saw Harold Cooper at a morgue, looking at Tom's corpse.

Tom's character was so popular that he became the star of a short-lived spinoff series, The Blacklist: Redemption, but returned to The Blacklist after that show was canceled, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Fans of The Blacklist expressed their shock at the character's death on Twitter Wednesday night:
