Blyth names a president and COO

GREENWICH, Conn. (AP) -- Blyth Inc. said Friday that it has named Robert B. Goergen Jr. as its president and chief operating officer, a newly created position.

Goergen is currently president of PartyLite Worldwide, its direct-selling arm that holds house parties to sell the company's products. He joined Blyth in 2000 and has worked in a number of positions. Goergen will retain his duties at PartyLite.

Blyth, based in Greenwich, Conn., sells candles, home accessories and nutritional products through its direct- selling format, catalogs and websites.

Its shares rose 21 cents to $16.17 in afternoon trading.
