Boeing: 787 flight Friday will wrap up testing of battery fix; still needs FAA approval
CHICAGO (AP) -- Boeing says a flight of a 787 on Friday will wrap up the testing for its fix of the battery problems that have kept the plane grounded.
Boeing planned for the flight to take off from Paine Field in Everett, Wash., at 11 a.m. Pacific time.
The 787 Dreamliner has been grounded since mid-January because of smoldering batteries. Boeing has designed what it says is a fix for the problem. Air and ground tests will wrap up with the flight on Friday.
The fix will still need approval by the Federal Aviation Administration and other authorities before airlines can fly 787s again.
