Boeing rises on $5 bil order

Alaska Air Group's (ALK) Alaska Airlines unit committed to buy 50 Boeing (BA) 737 jetliners, the largest order ever placed by the carrier. The order includes 37 of Boeing's more fuel-efficient, upcoming 737 MAX jets, bringing total MAX sales to 858 planes. The MAX competes with EADS' Airbus A320neo jet. Earlier this month, Boeing said it delivered 12 of its new wide-body 787 Dreamliners. Boeing is just starting delivery of the new wide-bodies. Boeing shares rose 0.7% to 70.83. Alaska Airlines shares fell 1 cent to 36.56.
