Boston Bruins, NY Rangers Dominate Post-Lockout NHL Ticket Sales on TicketNetwork.com

SOUTH WINDSOR, CT--(Marketwire - Jan 18, 2013) - After a prolonged 119-day lockout, National Hockey League® teams and their players will officially get back on the ice this Saturday, January 19, to begin a shortened 48-game schedule.

In the days since the end of the lockout was announced, two northeastern rivals have dominated sales on TicketNetwork.com. The New York Rangers and Boston Bruins have accounted for more than 1/3 of all the NHL tickets sold through the marketplace since January 13.

"It's not surprising that the Rangers and Bruins are doing so well," said Tim Fraser, sports specialist at TicketNetwork.com. "New York and Boston are two of the biggest sports markets and both are located in a cold-weather area where hockey is much more popular."

Overall, the Rangers have been the most popular team since the lockout ended, with more than 20% of NHL ticket sales on the site coming from their games at Madison Square Garden. To date, fans have paid an average of $138 for Rangers tickets listed on TicketNetwork.com, including hockey fans traveling from multiple other countries, including France, Sweden, and the UK.

The two teams play each other as part of hockey's opening day schedule at TD Garden in Boston, MA.
