Bradley Beal on sympathy weight gain: 'all we ate – pizza and ice cream, pizza and ice cream'
NBA dads aren’t immune to sympathy weight.
Bradley Beal couldn’t help but gain almost 20 pounds while his partner was pregnant last year.
Beal, who plays for the Washington Wizards, admitted to putting on 20 pounds last year when his partner, Kamiah Adams, was pregnant with the couple’s son Bradley “Deuce” Beal II.
Their snack of choice?
“Oh, pizza. It was always late-night pizza for me,” Beal said. “It was just pizza and ice cream. That’s all we ate — pizza and ice cream, pizza and ice cream.”
He said those extra 20 pounds went straight into his legs, but even that wasn’t enough to slow Beal down too much. The guard had one of the best years of his career, starting all 82 games while averaging 22.6 points, 4.4 rebounds and 4.5 assists.
He’s lost the weight though, starting his cleaner diet the first week of the offseason, so don’t expect to see him waddling around the court this year.

Beal isn’t the only first-time dad on the Wizards. Teammate Austin Rivers joined club dad when son Kayden James Rivers was born.
He didn’t struggle with sympathy weight, but he did come out on the losing end of a battle with baby Kayden.
“The baby peed on me the other day,” Rivers told the Washington Post. “I was changing him, and he just peed right upwards. It hit me – l was like, ‘Whoaaaa!’ It was so gross.”
Installing the baby’s car seat wasn’t any easier for Rivers, according to fiancee Brittany Hotard.
“An adventure. Oh, gosh, it was probably like a 25-, 30-minute process,” Hotard said. “Hot as heck. He was sweating and frustrated.”
Here’s hoping Beal, Rivers and the Wizards have it better on the basketball court than with beating sympathy weight and changing diapers.
