Brazil's BRF, AES unit seal $158 mln wind power deal
RIO DE JANEIRO, Aug 17 (Reuters) - Brazilian meatpacker BRF SA and power firm AES Brasil Energia SA have signed an agreement to build a 160-megawatt wind farm in the northeastern state of Rio Grande do Norte, the companies said on Tuesday.
In separate securities filings, the companies said the total capital expenditure for the project would come to 5.2 million reais per megawatt, implying a total investment of 832 million reais ($158 million). BRF said that its total investment would come to 80 million reais.
Eighty megawatts will go to BRF via a 15-year power purchase agreement, the companies said. The project is scheduled to begin operation in 2024.
Both BRF and AES Brasil, a unit of Virginia-based AES Corp , said the project was in line with their goals of increasing their reliance on clean energy sources.
