Britney Spears has reassured her fans “all is well” after taking some time out to deal with the “stress and anxiety” her family has been going through lately.

Earlier this month, the singer checked herself into a 30-day mental health programme, but some fans protested for her to be released, believing she was being held against her will.

However, Spears has now taken to Instagram to share a video with her near-22 million followers, claiming rumours about her well-being have got “out of control”.

She said in the video: “Hi guys, just checking in with all those that were concerned about me. All is well. My family has been going through a lot of stress and anxiety lately, so I needed time to deal but don’t worry, I will be back very soon.”

Spears also captioned the video with a lengthy statement, where she addressed the death threats made to her family and team, as well as accusing her ex-manager Sam Lufti of sending fake emails in her name.

“I wanted to say hi, because things that are being said have just gotten out of control!!! Wow!!!” she wrote. “There’s rumours, death threats to my family and my team, and just so many crazy things being said.

“I am trying to take a moment for myself, but everything that’s happening is just making it harder for me. Don’t believe everything you read and hear. These fake emails everywhere were crafted by Sam Lutfi years ago… I did not write them. He was pretending to be me and communicating with my team with a fake email address.”

Spears finished by adding: “I am strong, and stand up for what I want! Your love and dedication is amazing, but what I need right now is a little bit of privacy to deal with all the hard things that life is throwing my way. If you could do that, I would be forever grateful. Love you.”

The ‘Baby One More Time’ has suffered with mental health issues in the past. In 2007, the singer checked her self into rehab, and was photographed shaving her head during a breakdown. She later lost custody of her children to ex-husband Kevin Federline.

She has since bounced back, enjoying a lucrative Las Vegas residency in 2017. Her second Vegas residency – Britney: Domination – was due to open earlier this year, but has been put on hiatus for the singer to focus on her wellbeing.
