BTS face their fears in new 'Black Swan' single and enthralling art film
Black Swan isn’t just the name of Natalie Portman’s cinematic descent into ballet madness. It’s the latest music release from BTS, and it’s just as honest and raw if not as dark as that Darren Aronofsky film.
On Friday, the Korean boy band dropped an art film for “Black Swan,” the single from their new album Map of the Soul: 7, with an interpretive dance performance by Slovenian modern dance troupe MN Dance Company.
Through the lyrics, the singers explore their fears of music one day no longer moving them as it does now. “The heart no longer races/ When hearing the music play/ Tryna pull up,” the group sings, as translated to English. “Seems like time has stopped/ Oh that would be my first death/ I been always afraid of If this can no longer resonate/ No longer make my heart vibrate/ Then like this may be how I die my first death/ But what if that moment’s right now?”
In the accompanying film, a dancer mimics the movements of a black swan flapping its wings and rising after breaking forth from a confined cage surrounded by lasers.
BTS will perform “Black Swan” live for the first time on Jan. 28 on The Late Late Show with James Corden.

Map of the Soul: 7, BTS’ fourth studio album, will arrive on Feb. 21.
