Buckle April key revenue metric easily tops Street

KEARNEY, Neb. (AP) -- The Buckle Inc.'s revenue at stores open at least a year climbed 6.2 percent in April, easily beating Wall Street's view.

Analysts polled by Thomson Reuters expected a 1.5 percent rise in the figure.

This metric is a key indicator of a retailer's health because it excludes results from stores recently opened or closed.

Buckle sells clothing and accessories, with a focus on denim.

For the four weeks ended May 4, total revenue rose 3.1 percent to $73.8 million.

Year-to-date revenue at stores open at least a year increased 1.2 percent, while total sales climbed 2.3 percent to $269.7 million.

The Kearney, Neb., company currently has 443 stores in 43 states. It expects to report first-quarter financial results on May 23.
