'Lee Daniels' The Butler' tops box office for second weekend with $16.5 million

NEW YORK (AP) -- Despite three new releases, the period drama "Lee Daniels' The Butler" and the road trip comedy "We're the Millers" stayed atop the box office.

"The Butler," which stars Forest Whitaker as a long-serving White House butler, earned $16.5 million to lead all films for the second weekend in a row. "We're the Millers," which stars Jason Sudeikis and Jennifer Aniston, added another $13 million as it edged closer to passing the $100 million mark after three weeks in theaters.

The top 20 movies at U.S. and Canadian theaters Friday through Sunday, followed by distribution studio, gross, number of theater locations, average receipts per location, total gross and number of weeks in release, as compiled Monday by Hollywood.com, are:
