On a per-share basis, the Calgary, Alberta-based company said it had net income of 60 cents. Earnings, adjusted for non-recurring gains, came to 53 cents per share.
The results surpassed Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of six analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of 39 cents per share.
The oil and natural gas company posted revenue of $4.17 billion in the period. Its adjusted revenue was $3.95 billion.
Canadian Natural Resources shares have risen 16% since the beginning of the year. The stock has fallen 18% in the last 12 months.
