In terms of how this compares to previous Marvel comic book films, Captain Marvel has a pretty standard length.

It may run for longer than The Incredible Hulk (112 minutes), Thor (114 minutes), Thor: The Dark World (112 minutes), Guardians of the Galaxy (122 minutes), Ant-Man (117 minutes) and psychedelic fantasy Doctor Strange (115 minutes), but the upcoming film is still shorter than many of Marvel's other projects.

Potential chapter-closer Avengers: Endgame will undoubtedly hold the crown for longest MCU entry when it arrives this April.

Meanwhile, Endgame's co-director Joe Russo has discussed how the filmmaking team were concerned about Carol Danvers/Captain Marvel's superpowers being too strong.

"It's always a concern of ours about overpowering characters, because the reason that people relate to these characters is their humanity, and that they're flawed," he explained.

"And the reason we love working so much with Captain America was that he was limited, and his heart was his superpower, you know? So we're all acutely aware of the dangers of having an overly powerful character. [But] we like sensitive storytelling, so... we found a thoughtful way through it."

Captain Marvel is released in cinemas on March 8, while Avengers: Endgame can be seen from April 25 in the UK and April 26 in the US.
