Carlyle Group hires ex-P&G exec for post

Carlyle Group names Arnold operating executive of its consumer and retail group

NEW YORK (AP) -- Private equity firm The Carlyle Group has named former Procter & Gamble executive Susan Arnold as operating executive for its consumer and retail group.

The consumer and retail group has assisted in Carlyle's acquisition of companies including Dunkin' Brands Group Inc., Philosophy, NBTY and CVC.

Carlyle said Tuesday that Arnold will provide strategic guidance to its professionals throughout the investment process, from sourcing to acquisition to exit. She will also advise portfolio company executives on management, operational, branding and growth strategies.

Arnold served as president of global business units while at Procter & Gamble Co. She retired from the consumer products company in 2009.

Arnold will join Carlyle Group next month. Last week the company reported a narrower second-quarter loss on higher investment income, fund management and performance fees.

Shares of Carlyle Group added 5 cents to $26.97 in morning trading.
