Salesforce expects to double revenue — again

Salesforce is expecting to capture $35 billion in revenue in fiscal-year 2024, roughly double of where it anticipates it'll be in 2020, the company said Wednesday. But it's not the first time Salesforce has projected it will double its revenues. In March, for example, the San Francisco-based company said its revenues would double to approximately $28 billion in fiscal-year 2023 from where it expected to close out in fiscal 2019.

Marijuana Producer Green Thumb Stock Jumps on Anticipated Demand

Illinois cannabis vendors are bracing for a tornado of demand when the state starts recreational sales in January, said Chicago-based (GTII) on Wednesday night. While reporting a big jump in Green Thumb's (ticker: GTII.Canada) September-quarter revenue and cash flow late Wednesday, CEO Ben Kovler described how the state's medical-marijuana merchants are preparing for a recreational market they expect to be 10 times as large. It can take a year to get production from new facilities, Kovler said on the conference call, and Illinois' June approval of adult recreational use in 2020 left producers just six months to get ready.

Tesla’s new “cybertruck” appears to be coming tonight

Those vehicle segments represent just 6% share of vehicles sold in the US, according to a note analyst Adam Jonas of Morgan Stanley sent to investors Nov. 12, despite Tesla's success with its Model S luxury sedan, and Model X SUV, and mid-priced Model 3 sedan. In North America, pickups account for one of every six vehicles sold in the US (when including crossovers and SUVs, the share rises to 70%). Perhaps most important, pickups account for about 80% of the North American auto industry's profits (and all of Ford's and GM's), Jonas noted.

Vale returns looking for low-cost debt after Brumadinho tragedy

NEW YORK, Nov 21 (LPC) - The insatiable appetite to lend to Latin America's blue-chip corporations may allow Brazilian miner Vale SA to return to the loan market and borrow US$3bn to refinance debt at ultra-low rates, only 10 months after a dam disaster that left the country reeling. In January, following the collapse of a tailings dam at an iron ore mine in the Brumadinho region, Vale pulled back on original plans to refinance debt. Ten months and a public relations debacle later, a surfeit of lenders, including relationship banks with established ties to the miner and new lenders looking to forge a bond with one of Latin America's most frequent borrowers, are expected to flock to the trans...

Tesla’s new pickup will struggle to win over the Midwest’s truck die-hards

While a luxury vehicle on the coasts implies an Audi or BMW, in states like Nebraska, Arkansas, Montana, and Texas, it's more likely to mean a fully-loaded Chevy Silverado capable of hauling 35,500 lbs. As even pedestrian pickups' median price has soared from $32,557 in 2010 to $45,260 in the first half of 2019, according to the research firm J.D. Power and Associates, the high end keeps going up. Tesla wants to tap into this vehicle category, America's most profitable. The company's new pickup is due out tonight (Nov. 21), and it's billed as big, fast, and “crazy” powerful by CEO Elon Musk.

Phil Urban, chief executive of Mitchells & Butlers, said: “These strong results reflect the work we have done over the last few years, first to build sustained sales growth and then to convert that into profit growth. It has been extremely encouraging to see an improvement in like-for-like sales growth across the portfolio during the year, fuelled by our Ignite programme of work. This puts us in a stronger position as we move forward into the next financial year, in what we expect to remain challenging market conditions.

Booker Rises, Biden Stays Afloat and Nobody Wants to Dwell on Impeachment. 10 Takeaways From the November Debate

Rather than focusing on chaotic impeachment inquiry hearings in Washington, all eyes were on the 10 Democratic candidates who qualified for the November Democratic debate in Atlanta to make their case in a setting that remains ever-important for keeping their campaigns alive. While the candidates broached topics that have dominated previous debates — such as health care and climate change — the all-women panel of moderators spent more time questioning the contenders about some of America's other looming policy questions: What would the candidates do about the country's housing crisis? How would they go about developing paid family leave proposals?

It May Already Be Too Late for Macy’s

The department store giant reported Thursday that comparable sales sank 3.9% from a year earlier in the quarter, or 3.5% including licensed departments, a sharp retreat from meager gains it had recorded on this measure in the first half of the year. It was such a weak showing that the company cut its profit forecast and now expects declining comparable sales for the full year. Of course, department stores have been challenged for years because they rely on an older customer and are often tethered to the types of malls that are withering in the e-commerce era.

Johnson & Johnson loses pelvic mesh class action in Australia

More than 1,350 Australian women won a seven-year-old class action lawsuit on Thursday against Johnson & Johnson (J&J) for misleading patients and surgeons about the risks of the pharmaceutical giant's pelvic mesh implants. The suit is one of many J&J has faced in the United States, Canada and Europe over the implants, used to treat urinary incontinence and pelvic organ prolapse, in which organs shift from normal positions. J&J in October agreed to pay nearly $117 million to resolve claims in 41 U.S. states and the District of Columbia.
